What’s next in streaming?

NEXT STEPS: OPTIONS

1) Stop Streaming

2) Keep Recordiing and Posting

3) Stream LIVE

Stop streaming

Benefits: Easy – Just stop ;)

Things to consider: Are you possibly losing an audience that has been built during the Covid-19 pandemic?

Keep Recording and Posting

Benefits:

• GREAT option if you are serious about cultivating an online congregation!  A service custom for your online audience.

• You design and edit the service with one audience in mind, and can customize length, announcements, audio, video, etc. to that audience without having to worry about a live congregation.

Things to consider:

• Sermons need to be prepared and recorded earlier in the week.  This may involve staff or volunteer crew.

• Do you have a built up library of songs that you can use, or do you need to get all those recorded?

• Will you burn out your staff by having to essentially do two worship days (plus post production) per week?

Stream LIVE

Benefits:

•This is our natural instinct.  Just hit stream and go with the service.

•We may have been doing this before, and know how this works.

•Less time doing post production, back to everything happening on Sunday (Saturday, Monday, etc.)

Things to consider:

•Is your virtual audience a “serious” audience, or are they a “fly on the wall”, watching the congregation in the sanctuary.

•Do we have all the volunteers in place?  Camera Operators, Directors, Playback, Graphics, Broadcast Audio, etc.

•Are there things in the service to “tighten up” or change for  the online audience?  What happens online during the times of offering of communion?  Different Announcements?  How do you do that with your technology?

•You may be using an iPhone, Mevo, etc. to stream right now because your cameras are close.  When you go live, do you have the right cameras / lenses for the distances and locations necessary for the room to have a live congregation?

•Do you have a communication system or tally lights so the pastor knows which cameras are live, so he can address that audience?

•Is your camera system also being used for image magnification (IMAG) in the room?  You will produce for those screens differently than for broadcast.  Do you have a way to do that?

•Do you have a different way of mixing audio for the broadcast than you do for the live room?
